New Sounds: Taren Tate – Tomorrow’s Revenge (EP)

I love being able to find new sounds, both local and national. Boston sometimes feels fairly small, with a lot of familiar faces and names that tend to circulate through the visible part of the city’s music scene. Get familiar with Taren Tate and his latest EP, “Tomorrow’s Revenge.”

This 7-track EP is put together really well; the production is familiar but different, complex when it needs to be, and the overall sonic quality is muddy, reverb heavy, and pushes the comfort zone of typical engineering. For someone who doesn’t make himself all too apparent, Taren Tate has put together a solid body of work that deserves attention. Two tracks in particular stood out to me, those being the title track and Amulet. Tapping in with producer FOREVERFRIDAY (who’s been lowkey a secret gem for a while now) for the majority of the EP gave Taren a concise sound to build out a cohesive project.

I’m interested to see the artistic growth of Taren as he continues on, but he seems to be headed in the right direction with his sound.
